Are Animal Print Prom Shoes a Lasting Fad?

prom shoes
There is a big wave of fashion this year that is filling up the department stores fast. In the world of shoes, animal print is out and is spreading like wild fire.

So, is it cool to wear animal print for your prom shoes? It seems like sort of a silly question, but with all the hype about wearing the newest and coolest shoes and dresses on prom, you have to consider what the fashions actually are and which ones are actually important.

In my opinion, the only reason you should want to wear animal print prom shoes is if you want to look back on your prom pictures ten years from now and wonder what in the world you were thinking!

Your Dress Choice for Prom 2008

Prom 2008Prom 2008 is coming up this Spring and girls everywhere are already starting to prepare; those who aren't yet need to get a move on!

The important thing to consider about prom that takes a lot of time, much longer than you might expect, is getting the appropriate prom dress. You have to make sure you get the perfect one, and that is not always an easy task.

At my prom, for example, I wore a turquoise prom dress. It sounds totally crazy to me now, but those were the colors that were in style then: turquoise and hot pink. I found that when I went to prom, I saw at least five other girls wearing the exact same prom dress as I was wearing. It was pretty embarrassing.

Not only was my dress all over prom, but the fabric and style made me look huge. It somehow emphasized my belly, making me look pregnant. The color brought out the blue in my eyes, but also the bags underneath them. I would never wear a turquoise dress now, and looking back I cringe at my dress choice.

Don't get a trendy dress; instead, get the dress that fits your body style and you own skin tones.

What Does it Mean to be Prom Queen?

prom queen
There is a lot of hype about being prom queen. In all the movies and all the schools, it seems like such an important role, something every girl should want. But what does it really mean to be prom queen?

First and foremost, prom royalty is really nothing more than a glorified popularity contest. People usually vote for who they like best, who has the most friends, and who is the best looking. In the end, these are not the things that really matter.

If you are hurt that you aren't the prom queen this year, think of it this way: it doesn't matter who prom queen is. In ten years the only person who will care who the prom queen was will be the person who was prom queen. So don't sweat it.

Consider Comfort In Prom Shoes

Prom Shoes
When you are looking for that perfect pair of prom shoes this year, you are going to have to think about more than just the color. You want the perfect shoes to match or complement your dress, that much is true. There are also a few other things you should consider, though, that go way beyond color and style.

First of all, how comfortable are those four-inch stilettos? I don't want to sound like an old lady, but you are going to be wearing your shoes for hours. You are going to walk, dance, stand, pose for pictures, etc. You don't want to suffer blisters or sore ankles just to get the right look.

Prom Tiaras: Dumb and Dated

prom tiaras
When I think about corny prom costumes, I can't help but imagine girls wearing pastel dresses with puffy sleeves and glittery prom tiaras.

What exactly is the point of wearing a tiara anyway? A tiara makes a girl look like she is wearing a silly Disney princess costume rather than an elegant and modern prom outfit. If you are thinking about wearing a tiara, think about what what kind of attention you are really going to get.

Prom isn't a beauty pageant where the prettiest girl gets to wear the shiniest headpiece. Prom is supposed to be about having you shine, not having everyone stare at that thing on your head. We aren't in the 80's anymore.

White Prom Dresses Resemble Wedding Gowns

White Prom DressesProm is a great opportunity to dress up and feel your best, and for some girls, that means wearing a white dress. White is a wonderful color choice for many skin tones, and next to black, it is the easiest color to accessorize with.

The only problem with white prom dresses is that is they are not put together properly, they can look more like wedding gowns than high school prom gowns. You may really like your date, but don't you think that saving the white dress for an even bigger day might be worth the wait?

There are lots of dresses out there; pick one that actually looks good on you, not just whatever happens to be in style.
